BOTERO IN ROME

Until October 1, 2024, eight majestic statues by Fernando Botero will be exhibited in some of the most beautiful squares in Rome.

The event

Until October 1, the Botero in Rome exhibition brings 8 statues by the great Colombian sculptor to some of the most beautiful squares in the city. For the first time, it will be possible to admire iconic works by Botero around the Capital.

The pieces represent the artist’s unique vision of the world, featuring enlarged figures. Botero in Rome offers the chance to discover the sculptures up close in an unusual setting, among the streets of Rome’s historic center.

Starting from Terrazza del Pincio with Reclining Woman (2003) and Venus Dormida (1994), the tour continues to Piazza del Popolo, where Adam and Eve stand near the Flaminio Obelisk. In Largo San Carlo al Corso, you’ll find the famous Horse with Bridle on Via del Corso, in Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina the Cat (1999), in Piazza San Silvestro the Seated Woman (2000), and in Piazza Mignanelli another Seated Woman (1991).

Maxi LED screens with maps of the locations of the sculptures are placed near the artworks, indicating the route to admire them all.

The artist’s works are characterized by a unique style, with exaggerated proportions that reflect his obsession with volume, satire, and political commentary. Fernando Botero’s works are a celebration of life, following the belief that art should bring pleasure and is an oasis of joy amid life’s challenges.
