The exhibition
MAXXI presents an exhibition dedicated to the relationship between fashion and museums. Curated by Maria Luisa Frisa in collaboration with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, the exhibition delves into the international contemporary fashion scene from 2015 to the present, examining its impact on everyday life and collective imagination. Through a rich selection of garments, accessories, archival materials, and videos, the exhibition highlights fashion’s role in responding to social, political, economic, and cultural changes. Each of the approximately 50 showcased creations tells a unique story and serves as a point of reflection on the present. The display encourages unexpected pairings between haute couture and independent fashion, without hierarchical distinctions. The path showcases the creativity of Viktor&Rolf, the designs of Maria Grazia Chiuri for Christian Dior, and Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli, alongside the excellence of contemporary Italian fashion. From renowned figures such as Giorgio Armani, Miuccia Prada, and Dolce&Gabbana to emerging talents like ACT N°1 and Marco Rambaldi, the exhibition provides a comprehensive look at industry trends and innovations. Some striking objects punctuate the exhibition, enhancing its evocative atmosphere. Among them, the extraordinary bronze and brass carapace, adorned with silver coins and gems, stands out. Created by Bvlgari from a concept by artist Francesco Vezzoli, this monumental piece invites reflection on fashion’s ongoing oscillation between mass production and radical individualism.
